Wickton Court Bed And Breakfast –relax, you’re here!

Unwind in a quintessentially English, ancient and quirky setting, in the peaceful, best- kept secret county of Herefordshire – and yet – we are only 8 minutes from the antique hunters delight – Leominster ( pronounced Lemster ) where there is a railway station, 20 minutes from wonderful Ludlow ( 11 minutes by train) and 20 minutes from Hereford ( 15 minutes by train). 30 minutes drive from the Welsh Border, and 30 from Worcester and 40 minutes from Malvern, Hay-on -Wye and Ross-on-Wye. All lovely destinations, reached on rural open roads, through glorious English and Welsh Marches countryside.

But then – when you get here, you may well decide the car can stay where it is! Wonderful walks on your doorstep, a tennis court, bikes to borrow or hire, games room, comfy sofa in front of the log fire, secret corners to sit in the sun in the gardens in the ancient dovecote or by the duck pond… ”Magical things happen in magical places”

Imperfect Perfections

We can be summed up as Imperfect Perfection, ancient and quirky, with an emphasis on the warmest of welcomes, making our guests feel special. There are wood-burners and crackling log fires. Choose from a four- poster bed, a pair of antique French beds, or a massive 7’ by 7’ antique French bed with proper bathrooms. Comfort in an atmospheric English Country House, which is made to feel like home from home, where wellies and slippers are not out of place.

Over 600 years, a little here, a little there – very few straight lines, nooks and crannies and the odd spider! Wonky wooden floors, heavy, creaking doors, uneven flagstoned hall and passageways and cobbles in the courtyard– sometimes complete with muddy paws prints from the dogs….and yes, we are dog friendly – for well behaved ones! The Wifi is free but might not be the fastest you have ever experienced, however, the mobile reception is surprisingly good!

That’s a lot of the ‘endearingly ramshackle imperfections’ dealt with…
Moving to the perfections

This is a family home with no pretensions to be a smart hotel – HOWEVER… we know what the smart hotels’ attributes are and we unashamedly copy! We work hard to avoid any imperfections where our guests comfort and delight are concerned. Our aim is for you leave us with warm feelings and a wish to return. Happiness is a wonderful thing to behold and makes us all smile!
“ Perfection! Thank you so much for making me so welcome in your lovely house –I enjoyed myself so much and very much look forward to coming back” N.T., St Katherine Dock, LONDON

Lovely Smells

From fresh flowers , seasoned wood-smoke from the usually lit, enormous log fire in the gorgeous panelled room – at breakfast time and in the afternoons and evenings. Beautiful candle scents, such as Jo Malone or Dyptique ( Sally’s indulgence! ) Senspa award winning organic bath products.

Breakfast is a complete Feast! The best bacon (proper smoked or plain) and best sausages you could wish for from Legges of Bromyard ( Midlands Deli and Butchers of the Year 2015),or our Leominster or Ludlow butchers with Peter Cooks Bread for amazing sour doughs and other treats. Home- produced eggs – please expect to be asked how you like your scrambled eggs scrambled! Vegetables and fruit from our garden grown organically – or if we don’t have them, they will come from someone we know and trust . Herefordshire is justly proud of its magnificent food produce!

Lovely Sounds and Sights

From ducks quacking on the pond outside the Wind in the Willows bedroom, the cockerel crowing, hens clucking, sheep in the orchard baaing.
The only traffic noise may be the odd tractor and the only flight path we are on is that of some Canada geese who chatter to each other as they pass overhead.

A well-tuned Bechstein Boudior grand-piano in the panelled room for your enjoyment and good sound system for some background relaxing classical music if you wish. And not least…..laughter – best sound ever, encouraged whenever appropriate!

Rooms

Bedrooms somewhat larger than many B&Bs with proper bathrooms, very generous curtains , beds and linens , towels and snuggly robes. Freshly ground coffee, fresh milk and chilled bottled crystal water from our own bore -hole in a fridge on the landing, with space for your bottle of celebratory fizz!
Evening meals are happily provided with prior notice. “ fabulous food” , “ scrumpious food”, “the food was inventive and delicious” “ food to die for!” nothing better than not having to go out again when you arrive after a long drive. Heaven!
